The Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman has compared Moscow’s consistent policy with Washington’s, calling US’ political decisions “absolutely unpredictable.”
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The policy of the United States is “absolutely unpredictable,” Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Monday.
“The only clearly predictable thing is that [US further steps] are absolutely impossible to predict, and the things on which millions or even billions of dollars are being spent [by the US leadership] might one day become absolutely irrelevant, when a new political group comes [to power],” Zakharova said in an interview with Russia’s Dozhd broadcaster, probably referring to US President Donald Trump’s coming to power after former President Barack Obama and systematically undoing his legacy.
The spokeswoman noted that unlike Washington, Moscow was predictable with its key policy tenets and beliefs as they did not “alter to 180 degrees.”
Several Russian politicians and officials have criticized President Trump over his unconsistent stance on Russia, including US’ sanctions policy and Crimea, noting the difference between his actions in office and election campaign statements.
Despite election campaign statements calling for the US “getting along with Russia,” in early August, Trump signed a bill into law, tightening sanctions against Russia, North Korea and Iran. The law also prevents the US president from removing the sanctions on Russia without congressional approval.
