Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte head next Italy manager betting

We look at the top contenders to become the next Italy manager following Gian Piero Ventura’s sacking.

Ventura failed to lead Italy to the World Cup for the first time in six decades following their 1-0 aggregate play-off defeat to Sweden, prompting his inevitable departure.

Here’s a look at the leading contenders, according to the bookmakers…

Carlo Ancelotti – 6/4 with Sky Bet

If Italy are looking for a man boasting a wealth of experience at the highest club level then Carlo Ancelotti ticks the boxes. The 58-year-old was with some of Italy’s top clubs during his playing career and represented his country 26 times before going on to manage Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid. His latest stint in charge of Bayern Munich wasn’t the success he would have hoped for but it results in his availability at the perfect timing for Italy, who will need every ounce of his experience to revamp their beleaguered side.

Antonio Conte – 4/1 with Sky Bet

The current Chelsea boss patched together a widely-questioned Italian squad to defy critics at Euro 2016, with eventual champions Germany needing penalties to beat them in the quarter-finals. He then put Chelsea back together again following their woeful 2015/16 title defence and led them to Premier League glory, although murmurs of discontent suggest he may be open to an approach.

Roberto Mancini – 6/1 with Sky Bet

Another Italy legend with a wide-ranging managerial CV, Roberto Mancini is one Italian who should be in Russia this summer as the manager of Zenit Saint Petersburg. After some troubled stints, he was impressing again, sitting top of the Russian Premier League and their Europa League group, although a recent goal drought has seen them slip to second domestically.

Massimiliano Allegri – 8/1 with Sky Bet

The man many Italians are sure to be keen on is current Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri. Following a less than glamorous playing career, the 50-year-old has worked his way up the managerial ranks, leading AC Milan to Serie A glory in the first season of his first big job before completing a hat-trick of scudettos with the Old Lady. Four straight victories has put them hot on the tails of leaders Napoli this season, but the Italian FA will surely be hoping he fancies a new challenge rather than focusing on a fourth title and improving on two Champions League final loses.
