Premier League questions: Will Raheem Sterling rise again? How do you stop Mohamed Salah?

Will Raheem Sterling strike again? How do you stop Mohamed Salah? We take a look at this weekend’s Premier League questions.

On Saturday, Chelsea host Newcastle in the lunchtime kick-off on Sky Sports Premier League. There are six 3pm Premier League games, including Watford v Tottenham, before Arsenal play Manchester United on Saturday evening.

There is also a Nissan Super Sunday double header, with Bournemouth v Southampton at 1.30pm before Manchester City host West Ham at 4pm, all live on Sky Sports Premier League.

How will Chelsea fans react to Rafa’s return? (Chelsea v Newcastle, Sky Sports Premier League from 11.30am)

Rafa Benitez faces Chelsea for the first time since his spell as interim manager in 2012 – and a frosty reception could be on the cards.

The Newcastle boss was unpopular with some Blues fans the moment he took over from Champions League-winning manager Roberto Di Matteo. Anti-Benitez chants and banners were heard and seen at every game during his turbulent reign at Stamford Bridge despite the fact he managed to win the Europa League and finish third in the Premier League.

Newcastle have won just one of their last 23 league visits to Chelsea and further back, they have won just two of their last 44 top division visits. It could be a long afternoon for Rafa.

Will Watford carve open Toby-less Tottenham? (Watford v Tottenham, Saturday, 3pm)

Tottenham’s season has hit choppy waters since centre-back Toby Alderweireld damaged his hamstring against Real Madrid at the start of November – he won’t be back until after Christmas. Spurs’ defeat at Leicester City on Tuesday means they’ve taken just four points from a possible 12 without the influential Belgian.

Although Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy’s goals were top quality finishes, it was unusual to see how open the Spurs backline was at the King Power. Alderweireld is an organiser and his authority has been sorely missed. Watford will be looking to take advantage.

Leicester 2-1 Tottenham Will Alan Pardew get one over former friends on debut? (West Brom v Crystal Palace, Saturday, 3pm)

The footballing gods couldn’t have picked a more apt side for Alan Pardew to begin his West Bromwich Albion tenure against. Pardew was sacked by Palace almost a year ago.

West Brom chairman John Williams made reference to the hope that the new man can get the team playing the sort of “dynamic football” that West Brom supporters crave. Former boss Tony Pulis’ style of play has been much maligned over the years but regardless of whether that is deemed fair or not, there can be no denying that The Hawthorns crowd felt starved of entertainment.

They want to see more attacking football. Pardew can get them on side quickly with a positive result.

Alan Pardew explains why owners have turned to British managers like Sam Allardyce and David Moyes in recent weeks How do Brighton stop Mohamed Salah? (Brighton v Liverpool, Saturday, 3pm)

Mohamed Salah has had a hand in 14 goals in 14 games for Liverpool this season in the Premier League. His haul of 12 league goals in his first 14 for Liverpool is a club record and he must have sights on winning the golden boot award.

Brighton will be a tough nut for Salah to crack, however. Since losing their opening game against Manchester City, Brighton are unbeaten in six Premier League games at home, though the last four have all ended level.

Take a look ahead at all of Saturday's fixtures for gameweek 15, including Arsenal v Manchester United and Chelsea v Newcastle United Will Big Sam make a big noise on his return? (Everton v Huddersfield, Saturday, 3pm)

He’s back!

Sam Allardyce will become the first manager to take charge of seven Premier League clubs in this game and will be looking to that new-manager bounce. Allardyce has won four of his six first Premier League matches in charge of his previous six clubs but won none of his most recent two (D1 L1).

Huddersfield travel to Goodison Park low on confidence. Wednesday’s defeat at Arsenal means they’ve gone seven away games in a row without scoring.

Will Leicester stop Burnley’s charge on the road? (Leicester City v Burnley, Saturday, 3pm)

Burnley’s win at Bournemouth on Wednesday means they’ve already won twice as many points away from home this season (14 in seven games) than they did in the whole of 2016-17 (seven points in 19 games).

This is Burnley’s best start to a top-flight season after 14 games since 1973 as they sit above Tottenham in the Premier League table and could move above Liverpool into fifth with another victory.

Will the real Renato Sanches please stand up? (Stoke City v Swansea, Saturday, 3pm)

The on-loan Bayern Munich man has failed to live up to his pre-season hype.

Paul Clement admitted Sanches is struggling for confidence after withdrawing the Portugal international at half-time in Swansea City’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, where the midfielder’s passing was horrendous.

Clement said: “I feel for him, he is a talented player but I don’t think in any of the games he has played this year he has showed the talent he has.”

Will the manager trust him for what is a big game at the bet365 Stadium?

Will the Gunners make it lucky 13 at the Emirates? (Arsenal v Manchester United, Saturday, 5.30pm)

Arsenal welcome their great rivals having now won their last 12 home league games in a row. They last enjoyed a longer run between February and November 2005 when playing at Highbury (13).

Manchester United, who can close the gap to five points on Manchester City with a win, won at Watford in midweek, but haven’t secured back-to-back away wins in the Premier League since a run of four in April.

Will Southampton release the shackles in the south-coast derby? (Bournemouth v Southampton, Super Sunday, Sky Sports Premier League from 12.30pm)

Since the start of April, Southampton have scored only 22 goals in their 25 matches in the Premier League (0.88 per game).

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino is keen to rotate his strikers based on the tactics of the opposition as seen by dropping Charlie Austin, who scored twice in the win over Everton, for Shane Long for the trip to Manchester City. Will Austin return? Or will he even decide to throw in Manolo Gabbiadini?

Raheem Sterling has scored the winning goal in the 84th minute or later in four different competitive games for Manchester City this season, including in each of their last three games.

His winner against Southampton on Wednesday was the pick of the bunch as Pep Guardiola has added a ruthlessness in front of goal to the England international’s game. Sterling has been directly involved in 12 goals in his last 13 competitive appearances for Manchester City (10 goals, two assists).
